Rivett Architectural Hardware has supplied and serviced doors and overhead door systems across Ontario since 1977, and loading dock equipment has been part of that work for decades. Our Overhead Door Division handles docks the same way we handle everything else: we come and look at the bay, we tell you what it actually needs, and our own technicians do the install.
That starts with a site survey. Pit depth, truck mix, floor condition, bay height, how many trailers a day come through: those decide whether a mechanical leveler is the sensible answer or whether the bay wants hydraulic, vertical storing or edge-of-dock. We would rather spend an hour measuring than sell you the wrong leveler.
We serve Whitby, Oshawa and all of Durham Region, the Greater Toronto Area, Kingston and Eastern Ontario, and we regularly work beyond those boundaries. Free on-site assessments, and one company accountable for the survey, the equipment, the installation and the service call afterwards.
We supply and install all four types. Which one suits your bay depends on the pit, the trailers and the traffic, and that is what the site survey is for.
Push-button operation, so the leveler does the lifting instead of your staff. Hydraulic units suit high-traffic bays, heavy loads and facilities where the same dock runs all day: distribution centres, food and beverage, cold storage. Fewer moving parts under load than a mechanical unit, and no pull chain to maintain.
The spring-and-pull-chain standard, and still the right call for a lot of bays. Mechanical levelers cost less up front, are straightforward to service and hold up well in moderate-traffic warehouses and manufacturing plants. They need periodic spring adjustment, which is something we cover on a maintenance visit.
A vertical storing leveler parks upright inside the building so the overhead door closes down onto the pit floor, which is the answer for temperature-controlled and food-grade facilities where a sealed bay matters. Edge-of-dock units mount to the face of the dock and suit bays with no pit, a limited budget or a consistent trailer height. Because we install the overhead door as well as the leveler, we set the two up to work together rather than leaving you to coordinate two trades.
For work that happens away from the dock face: raising pallets to a comfortable working height, feeding an assembly line, moving product between floor levels. Specified by capacity, platform size and travel, so tell us the load and the lift you need and we will size it.
The parts of the bay that keep people and trailers safe. Supplied and fitted on their own, or as part of a full dock package.
Red and green communication lights so the driver and the dock crew are working from the same signal. Straightforward to add to an existing bay and one of the cheapest safety improvements you can make.
Adjustable arm lights that put usable light inside the trailer instead of on the dock floor. LED heads for lower draw and longer life, in standard and heavy-duty arms to suit the bay.
Rubber and steel chocks, with chain and holder where you want them kept at the bay. The simplest defence against trailer creep and early departure, and a standing item on most facility safety audits.
Laminated and moulded bumpers in standard and heavy-duty thicknesses. They take the impact so the dock face and the leveler do not. Worn bumpers are the single most common thing we find on a dock survey, and replacing them is cheap next to concrete repair.
Before we quote anything, we come out and measure the bay. Pit depth and condition, dock height against the trailers you actually receive, door and bay dimensions, the state of the bumpers, drainage, approach and how many trucks a day come through. You get a written recommendation on what the bay needs and what it does not.
We survey docks for new builds, for retrofits into existing bays, and for facility managers who have inherited equipment and want an honest assessment of what is left in it. Site assessments are free across Durham Region, the GTA, Kingston and Eastern Ontario. call 1 (905) 668-4455 to book one.
Our technicians service all makes and models of loading dock equipment, not only what we supplied. Seized levelers, failed hydraulics, broken springs and chains, torn seals and shelters, damaged bumpers, dead dock lights: we carry replacement parts and we get the bay back in service.
We also run scheduled preventive maintenance for facilities that cannot afford a bay going down: leveler operation and lip performance, spring tension, hydraulic condition, safety legs, bumper wear and light function, on a set visit schedule. And when something does fail, our Overhead Door Division runs a dedicated emergency line at 1 (905) 424-2512.
